T-Systems supplies low latency platform EdgAIR for edge computing – Telecompaper

Deutsche Telekom said that its subsidiary T-Systems has introduced a platform called EdgAIR, with low latency for edge computing. EdgAIR works as a private cloud and can be connected to a campus network in factories. Data can be exchanged between the devices and the platform. The latency is of 10-40 milliseconds.

EdgAIR is based on OpenStack. The open source software avoids vendor lock-ins. Customers can connect their IoT applications with connectors. The applications run as virtual machines or in docker containers in the form of micro services. This makes them independent from the underlying infrastructure. Companies to use innovative applications for their production processes and logistics, including driverless vehicles (Automated Guided Vehicles).

Deutsche Telekom has already built a campus network based on EdgAIR at the lighting manufacturer Osram. The campus works with 4G at the moment but it will switch to 5G.
