A shift from public cloud to a hybrid cloud strategy is needed in highly regulated enterprise areas such as banking, utilities and the public sector. The move to hybrid is reinforced by edge compute ecosystems. So is infrastructure still a focus?
“There’s this almost mythical opinion out there with cloud that you don’t need to worry about your infrastructure,” said Raj Wickramasinghe (pictured, right), global lead at Accenture PLC. “It’s really critical what your infrastructure strategy is as you move to the cloud.”
Wickramasinghe and Guido Greber (pictured, left), Red Hat Business Group lead at Accenture, spoke with industry analysts Dave Vellante and Paul Gillin during Red Hat Summit 2022, in an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed tech transformation strategies and managing the complexity of a hybrid cloud environment. (* Disclosure below.)
Function leads form in tech transformation
Accenture’s business model is to view challenges with solutions through an industry lens. And today, every business is a tech business.
“Regardless of what the business is, technology is absolutely critical to whatever transformation you’re doing. And when you look at technology you have to think cloud first, because that’s where all the innovation is happening. That’s where all the investments are being driven,” Wickramasinghe said.
While getting the technology right is a key ingredient for a successful transformation, clarity on business needs is the best place to start.
“If you have a clear strategy, you know where you want to go, and then you can make your business case. You can make your architecture, and then you decide on technology,” Greber said.
Edge computing is changing the nature of hybrid cloud, redefining it as a complex architecture. Managing that complexity is the challenge on the horizon.
“We need to come up with a clean ‘single pane of glass’ for an enterprise to look at their estate in a way that allows them to then simply make some innovative decisions across the entire state,” Wickramasinghe said.
