AIoT chip performs multicore edge computing – EDN – EDN

MediaTek’s Genio 1200 SoC packs an 8-core CPU, 5-core GPU, and 2-core AI processor for building advanced AIoT devices. The Genio 1200 is part of a complete platform stack comprising premium, mid-tier, and entry-level SoCs; open platform software development kits; and a developer portal offering resources and tools. This all-in-one platform aims to ease the development of a wide range of consumer, enterprise, and industrial smart applications.

The CPU, GPU, and 4.8-TOPS AI accelerator in Genio work together to enhance intelligent autonomous capabilities at the edge and support high-definition 4K displays and cameras. Additionally, the 6-nm chip handles Bluetooth, Wi-Fi 6E, and sub-6-GHz modules to deliver seamless connectivity. Several high-speed interfaces are also available, including PCIe, USB 3.1, and Gigabit Ethernet.

The Genio open platform AIoT SDK allows designers to customize multiple products with the same software pack, which supports Yocto Linux. By streamlining the writing and coding of each software application layer, customers can develop their products with minimal support, regardless of the type of application.

The premium-grade Genio 1200, which is the first member of the Genio SoC series, will be commercially available starting in the second half of 2022. Developers can access the Genio portal site here.
